2013 – The Year of Me!

I racked my brain thinking of a New Year’s resolution this year and couldn’t come up with anything that really sparked a fire under my butt.  I already work out, I eat healthy, I don’t really do anything that is bad for my body (well, I like wine). So when it came time for a resolution, my thoughts kept returning to things that I want to do to make me happy, not deprived or possibly more frustrated.

So this year I am making 2013 about ME…just me, simply me, head to toe me!Image

That probably sounds like the most selfish thing to focus on when there are so many things I can do for others. THAT IS THE POINT! I am a wife, a mom, a daughter, a friend, a doggy mom, a homeowner, a small business owner, a volunteer, etc… all of these things I love with all of my heart, but there are many days that go without a thought about me. That is draining.  I find myself taking things too seriously, not laughing enough, expecting too much from others & my kids, feeling tired and going through my day without smelling the roses.  That has to change. It doesn’t make me happy to snap at my kids or argue with my husband. I feel sad when my day to day routine is mundane. Now, don’t misunderstand me, I will continue to play all of these roles because I love them and I am good at them, but 2013 is going to change me for the better!

MY 2013 NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION : Find something you did in 2012 and doing it better!

That sound vague, but if you have been listening you now understand why 2013 is all about ME! If I make me better, then I will be better at all of my activities. I am going to make time each day for fitness, plan my meals for a healthier family, add Yoga/Pilates into my life, continue to race my Triathlons, take more DEEP breaths, put my devices down and listen/play with my kids after work, learn more about what makes me happy and inspired!

Every woman and man out there can do this! It doesn’t require joining a gym or buying any new devices. It only requires you to refocus on YOU and find out what makes you happy and motivated.

Step 1: Figure out what you love. If you LOVE to read, than read more. If you love to exercise, than try a new class. If you love to cook, than try out more new recipes.

Step 2: Make time to do this activity during the week. Give yourself about 30 minutes a day to do this activity you love so much.

Step 3: Pay it forward. Get a friend to join you, start a club/evening get together, share your love with others.

Step 4: Reflect & Refocus on you. This will make You a Better You!

I am the proud mom of two beautiful boys.  During my first pregnancy I exercised somewhat but didn’t know how to adjust to my changing body.  Eventually I just stopped and let my pregnancy take over because I thought the aches and pains were telling me to stop.  When I found out I was pregnant with my second child, I was told I needed to stop teaching cardio kickboxing and go easy during bootcamp.  I was very frustrated and confused.  I was pregnant, not injured?!  So I did my research and found out that I was right - I CAN do all of the things I was doing!  I just needed to be in tune with my body and listen to it.  I maintained my fitness levels, my core and total body strength and my relaxed state of mind.  I knew that being a mom did not mean letting go of who I am - a Strong and Fit Woman.  I deserved an hour a day to focus on my mind & body and ultimately my baby and family as well. * My passion in life is to help moms get fit and maintain their strength throughout their pregnancy and beyond.  * I am the owner of Strength in Moms - Prenatal & Postpartum Personal Training in Atlanta, GA
